Con la publicación del diálogo "Guatimozín y Hernán Cortés" del político y pensador social Pi y Margall se pone al descubierto una interesante corriente crítica de la conquista de América que se desarrolló en España a finales del siglo XIX. En el estudio introductorio se enmarca este diálogo en el regeneracionismo finisecular, que acompañó al desastre de 1898, y en la historiografía cortesiana de la centuria decimonónica. Memoria y conocimiento histórico se dan la mano en este trabajo que quiere contribuir a la revisión de la dispersa historiografía americanista española.

With the publication of the dialogue "Guatimozín y Hernán Cortés" (Madrid, 1899) by the politician and social thinker Pi y Margall, it is brought to light a very interesting critical current about the conquest of the Americas which developed in Spain at the end of the nineteenth century. In the introductory study this dialogue is placed in the regenerationism that accompanied the disaster of 1898 and classical cortesian historiography of the nineteenth century. Memory and historical knowledge meet themselves in this paper that tries to contribute to the revision of the scattered spanish american historiography about the conception of Conquest.
