Resumen de Llenguatge i contemporaneïtat

María Teresa Cabré

  • Language and contemporaneousness [M. TERESA CABRÉ] Dr. Cabré's article provides an in-depth insight into the role of language at the turn of the millennium. Her approach is articulated around a series of open-ended questions that are developed until clear, solid and convincing answers are reached. Questions such as the value of language in our era, what the most important characteristics of contemporary society are, what the role of language is or how cultural changes have affected language and languages are all starting points to address one of the most important and sensitive issues of any culture. In relation to this, and in the face of new technological processes, we have the emergence of what the author has dubbed «the new linguistic professions». It is self-evident that a social change that affects language requires the appearance of new professions that respond to this change. These and other issues are presented by Dr. Cabré in a discourse that links the challenges of contemporaneousness and the role of languages in the new millennium.
