  • Resumen
    • This study analyzed 8,969 tweets following Larry Nassar’s sentencing using a mixedmethodapproach that combined semantic network analysis and content analysis. Thesemantic network analysis revealed four major themes based on the interconnectionsamong key concepts: (1) accountability of organizations and individuals, (2) sentencing of Nassar, (3) criticism of Nassar, and (4) support for victims. In addition, thecontent analysis identified a clear gendered pattern about sexual harassment: womenwere more likely to discuss victims, whereas men tend to focus on facts and accountability. By uncovering distinct public sentiments and rhetorical patterns surroundingthe Larry Nassar sentencing, the findings offered an alternative lens to understandhow the public constructed meaning from a major crisis and how individual attributescan play a role in this process. These findings underscored the importance of understanding how the public engage with crisis events on social media. By recognizing themeanings embedded in public discourse and the rhetorical cues that emerge in realtime, organizations can more effectively align their crisis communication strategieswith public sentiment
