This chapter explores the impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) on students’ oral discourse during the defence of Final Degree Projects (Trabajo Fin de Título or TFT, in Spanish). It addresses a significant gap in research by focusing on GAI’s influence on spoken language, particularly in academic contexts like dissertation defences. The chapter also aims to establish criteria for evaluating oral defences in Spanish universities, with a special focus on GAI’s role in their preparation. Based on a review of literature from Scopus and Dialnet, and a comparison of evaluation criteria across fifteen Spanish universities, the chapter proposes key indicators for assessing these defences. It identifies six core competences for evaluation: communication skills, language use, structure and coherence, time management, use of visual aids, and handling questions. Also, it suggests specific GAI-related signs (e.g. impersonal language, repetitive sentences, or unclear use of sources) to detect AI-generated content that could affect the assessment of TFT. The chapter emphasises the importance of ethical GAI use in oral presentations and concludes with proposals for the responsible integration of this technology into education to help students and educators reach their full potential.
