This article explores the complex relationship between the environment and future generations, approaching sustainability as an ethical, legal, and philosophical imperative. In the face of a growing ecological crisis, responsibility towards those yet to come emerges as a fundamental pillar for public policy formulation and the reorientation of human behavior. The analysis spans the necessity of recognizing the rights and interests of future generations, often absent from contemporary debates, but whose existence and well-being depend on decisions made in the present. To this end, contributions from thinkers such as Luis Alberto Warat, who challenges traditional legal structures, and jurists like José Luis Serrano and Francisco de Asis Garrido Peña, who deepen the discussion on environmental law and intergenerational protection, are examined. It is argued that the mere application of existing legal norms is insufficient; a redefinition of paradigms that incorporates a holistic view of justice and intergenerational equity is urgently needed. The article highlights that sustainability is not just a concept of resource management but an ethic of coexistence that demands profound reflection on the legacy we intend to leave. It concludes that the effective environmental protection for future generations requires a synergy between law, philosophy, and social action, promoting an unavoidable commitment to the planet's integrity and humanity's future.
