    El objetivo de este ensayo es comprender la relación entre el héroe y el monstruo de fantasía épica, dos figuras paradigmáticas de un género literario que, como los elementos que lo conforman, ha evolucionado con el paso del tiempo. El principal de los condicionantes es la verosimilitud, que fundamenta estilos literarios como el grimdark, basado en exacerbar elementos realistas para provocar horror. Se discute, pues, cómo afecta esta verosimilitud —concretada a partir del artefacto—a la composición moral e ideológica del héroe y del monstruo. A continuación, se trazan las líneas maestras que rigen los vínculos, intercambios y comportamientos entre ambos arquetipos a partir de dos momentos: uno, de contaminación, y otro, de redención. Por último, se aplican las líneas generales a dos personajes de fantasía épica, Gollum y Daenerys Targaryen, con lo que se pretende avanzar hacia una progresión (en lugar de oposición) entre la figura heroica y la monstruosa

    The objective of this essay is to understand the relationship between the hero and the monster in epic fantasy, two paradigmatic figures of a literary genre that, as the elements that compose it, has evolved over time. The main trait is verisimilitude, which grounds literary styles such asgrimdark, based on saturating the narration with realistic elements to provoke horror on the reader. Here we ponder how this verisimilitude, embodied on the artifact, affects the moral and ideological composition of the hero and the monster. Next, we outline the main principles that determine the connections, exchanges, and behaviors between both archetypes at two moments: one of contamination and another of redemption. Finally, we apply those concepts to two epic fantasy characters, Gollum and Daenerys Targaryen, with the aim of advancing towards a progression (rather than opposition) between the heroic and monstrous figures.
