Aspectos sócio-históricos do contato entre o dialeto vêneto e o português no Espírito Santo

    This sociolinguistic study aims at describingthe contact that occurred between Portuguese and the dialects spoken by Italian immigrants in the state of Espírito Santo. We are specifically interested in analyzing the external factors that favor the maintenance and replacement of a minority language in order to investigate the process ofreplacing the Venetian, the most spoken dialect among the languages of immigration. In order to describe the sociolinguistic situation of the Italian immigrants in Espírito Santo, we seek to briefly portray the colonization of the state, since the arrival of the Portuguese in the sixteenth century until the late nineteenth century, when Italian immigrants landed. Given the characteristics of our European colonization and immigration, we observed thatthereplacement of the Venetian dialect by Portuguese occurred through psychosocial factors involving the community of Italian immigrants, given that other minority languages such as the Pomeranian, with much less survival conditions, remains to this day. Thus, the sociolinguistic consequences of immigration in Espírito Santo may shed light on the research of language contact, providing data that are not considered in this research area.

    Este trabalho sociolinguístico tem por objetivo descrever o contato que ocorreu entre o português e os dialetos falados pelos imigrantes italianos, no estado do Espírito Santo. Especificamente, interessa-nos analisar os fatores externos que favorecem a manutenção e a substituição de uma língua minoritária, a fim de investigar como se deu o processo de substituição do vêneto, o mais falado dentre as línguas de imigração. Para descrever a situação sociolinguística dos imigrantes italianos no Espírito Santo, buscamos retratar sucintamente a colonização do estado, desde a chegada dos portugueses, no século XVI, até o final do século XIX, quando aportaram os imigrantes italianos. Dadas as características de nossa colonização e da imigração europeia, observamos que a substituição do dialeto vêneto pelo português ocorreu por fatores psicossociais envolvendo a comunidade de imigrantes italianos, tendo em vista que outras línguas minoritárias, como o pomerano, com muito menos condições de sobrevivência, se mantém até nossos dias. Dessa forma, as consequências sociolinguísticas da imigração no Espírito Santo pode lançar luz às pesquisas de contato linguístico, aportando dados que não são considerados nas pesquisas desta área.
