As representações do Instituto Nacional de Educação de Surdos (INES) na década de 1930: um estudo sistêmico-funcional

    This article presents the analysis of letters written by family members of the deaf under the Systemic-Functional perspective of Halliday (1994) and Halliday and Matthiessen (2004, 2014), through the ideational meta-function. The objetive is to reflect on the importance of the National Institute of Deaf Education – INES in those documents and understand the representativeness of INES. Eight letters written in the 1930s were analyzed, addressed to the Institute with a request for enrollment or permanence of their relatives at the Institution. The analysis of the letters showed the representativeness of INES at the time and which can be expanded to the present day, as it is considered a reference in the education of the deaf and a caring and welcoming institution.

    Este artigo apresenta a análise de cartas de familiares de surdos sob a perspectiva Sistêmico-Funcional de Halliday (1994) e Halliday e Matthiessen (2004, 2014), por meio da metafunção ideacional, com o objetivo de refletir sobre a importância do Instituto Nacional de Educação de Surdos – INES presente nos discursos desses documentos e compreender a representação dessa instituição para essas famílias. Foram analisadas oito cartas escritas na década de 1930, direcionadas ao INES, com solicitação de matrícula ou de permanência de seus familiares no Instituto. A análise das cartas mostrou a representatividade do Instituto naquela época e que pode ser expandida até os dias atuais, na medida em que é considerado uma referência na educação de surdos e uma instituição assistencialista e acolhedora.
