Crenças e atitudes linguísticas da comunidade de fala piranhense à luz da Sociolinguística Variacionista

    This article aims to describe and analyze, under the vision of Variationist Sociolinguistics, the linguistic beliefs and attitudes of the speaking community of the urban area of the city of São José de Piranhas-PB, considering that such beliefs and attitudes reflect the metalinguistics and epilinguistics vision of speakers regarding perception, linguistic attitude, dialectal belief, and informants’ knowledge about the very varieties they speak and hear. Methodologically, we applied, through the direct approach, the attitudinal test, through a semi-structured questionnaire and recorded interview, with 12 informants from the urban area of the city that we mentioned above. The theoretical framework will be guided by: Bourdieu (1982), Calvet (2002), Campbell-Kibler (2006), Kaufmann (2011), Labov (2008), Tarallo (1990), among others. The results show that the variables age, time of exposure and education have a remarkable influence on the judgment of linguistic beliefs and attitudes, both in the personal perception of the informants regarding their own accent and in the perception of the interlocutors. Thus, such factors interfere decisively in the linguistic configuration of the piranhense speech community.

    O presente artigo tem como objetivo principal descrever e analisar, à luz da Sociolinguística Variacionista, as crenças e as atitudes linguísticas da comunidade de fala da zona urbana da cidade de São José de Piranhas-PB, considerando que tais crenças e atitudes refletem a visão metalinguística e epilinguística dos falantes a respeito da percepção, atitude linguística, crença dialetal e o conhecimento dos informantes sobre as próprias variedades que falam e ouvem. Metodologicamente, aplicamos, através da abordagem direta, o teste atitudinal, através de um questionário semiestruturado e entrevista gravada, com 12 informantes do município supracitado. O arcabouço teórico será balizado por: Bourdieu (1982), Calvet (2002), Campbell-Kibler (2006), Kaufmann (2011), Labov (2008), Tarallo (1990), dentre outros. Os resultados denotam que as variáveis: idade, tempo de exposição e escolaridade exercem relevantes influências no julgamento das crenças e atitudes linguísticas, quer na percepção pessoal dos informantes quanto ao seu sotaque, quer na percepção dos interlocutores. Logo, tais fatores interferem decisivamente na configuração linguística da comunidade de fala piranhense.
