    Within lexicology is the studies of onomastics, the subject responsible for the study ofproper nouns. Onomastics, in turn, is divided in toponymy (the study of proper nouns of place) and anthroponymy (proper nouns of people). The toponymic studies have shown to be of great importance to the understanding of the socio-historic and cultural aspects of a people, alowing the identification of linguistic, historic and ideological facts, as well as the belief system of such community. Since there is no study or research concerning specifically the northern region of Paraná on the regards of toponymy, this paper aims to study the names of the municipalities that compose this region of Paraná. For that, the research will be based on data collected from IBGE (the Brazilian institute of statistics and geography), books, internet, written documents, etc. The naming of municipalities revealed a balance of physical nature and anthropocultural aspects. The fitotopônimos (10) reveal a region strongly connected to the agricultural activity. And the hagiotopônimos (9) demonstrate the remarkable presence of the church in this region through Catholicism. Both of these factors reveal, thus, a traditional region.

    Dentro da lexicologia está a onomástica, disciplina responsável pelo estudo dos nomes próprios. A onomástica, por sua vez, divide-se em toponímia (estudo nomes próprios de lugar) e antroponímia (nomes próprios de pessoas). Os estudos toponímicos revelam-se de grande importância para o conhecimento de aspectos sócio-histórico-culturais de um povo, permitindo a identificação de fatos linguísticos, históricos, crenças e ideologias presentes na comunidade. Como não há um estudo que contemple apenas a região paranaense do Norte Pioneiro no que se refere à toponímia, este trabalho tem o objetivo de estudar o nome dos municípios que compõem essa região paranaense. Para isso, a pesquisa se baseou em dados do IBGE, livros, internet, documentos escritos, etc. O processo de nomeação dos municípios revelou um equilíbrio entre as naturezas física e antropocultural. Os fitotopônimos (10) revelam uma região fortemente ligada à atividade agrícola. E os hagiotopônimos (9) demonstram a presença marcante da igreja na região por meio do catolicismo. Ambos revelam, portanto, uma região tradicional.
