    In this paper, we present an analysis of the approach and representation of black people in the Portuguese Language Manual (PLM). The main objective is to discuss how the inclusion of ethnic-racial themes in the PLM occurs, noting if the representation of black people is made or not in a stereotyped and prejudiced way. An appreciative-evaluative analysis was conducted and focused on (1) how a collection of PLM approaches and represents black people in the division of the thematic chapters/units, and (2) the way the activities are proposed in the texts (oral and written), and also in the illustrations and images. All this enabled us to identify the existence or not of an approach and representation that allow approximations of the concept of equality regarding rights and dignity, and that could support the valorization of the ethnic-racial diversity.

    Neste artigo, apresento uma análise da abordagem e representação do negro no livro didático de Língua Portuguesa (LDP). O principal objetivo é discutir como se dá a inclusão da temática étnico-racial no LDP, observando se a representação do negro é feita ou não de maneira estereotipada e preconceituosa. A análise do tipo apreciativo-valorativa incidiu sobre a forma como uma coleção de LDP aborda e representa o negro na divisão temática dos capítulos/unidades, na forma como são propostas as atividades relacionadas aos textos (orais e escritos) e, ainda, nas ilustrações e imagens. Tudo isso possibilitou identificar a existência ou não de uma abordagem e de uma representação que possibilitem aproximações da noção de igualdade quanto aos direitos, quanto à dignidade e que embasem a valorização da diversidade étnico-racial.
