  • Resumen
    • The utilisation of team-based learning (TBL) has become increasingly prevalent in higher education, particularly within the context of healthcare education. The present research aims to investigate the effects of TBL on student performance in higher education. To this end, nine first-order meta-analysis (FOM) studies, primarily from the field of healthcare education literature, were retrieved from various databases. A second-order meta-analysis was employed to synthesise findings derived from FOM studies. The study concluded that TBL has a significant high-level effect on student performance, encompassing academic achievement, professional skills and learning attitudes. The mean effect size was calculated as ES = 0.84 [CI = 0.58–1.09; p < 0.001]. The distribution of effect sizes comprising the data set of the study exhibited publication bias, slightly inflating the mean effect size. The effect sizes related to TBL were observed to vary according to the sampling methodology employed and the geographical origin of the primary studies.
