One of the characteristics of Greek art is the apparent lack of expression in most of the works. However, emotions existed even if they are not easy to perceive for today’s viewer. The artists were sensitive beings who certainly wanted to convey certain feel- ings so that users would recognise them and participate affectively. To this end, we have analysed the exterior of the Oedipus Painter’s cup in the Vatican Museums, which depicts a group of satyrs acting as symposiasts. In one section the characters are carrying wine, performing and listening to music while one of them is urinating into a jug. Does the image convey the shamelessness of an irrational creature, and will the viewer have experienced disgust? On the other side, a small domestic drama has been performed: a satyr child, who has drunk all the wine, begs for mercy from his father who is about to punish him, how was anger or compassion expressed? In order to reconstruct the emotional effects provoked by the work, we will try to unravel the artist’s mentality, imagine the feelings of the recipient and understand the context in which the piece was used.
