    In this essay, the authors present some thoughts concerning the poetic dimension of lullabies and its significance in an educational context. Considering that the folk lullaby is a specific text of oral literary heritage, the authors list examples of the semantic, stylistic, phonic and rhythmic components, among others, that contribute to the aesthetic complexity of these "rhymes". These elements encourage to rewriting and to appropriation of the genre by both composers and poets from different cultures. Some of them are mentioned in this article, including a few Portuguese creators. The early contact with these "rhymes" is crucial in an aesthetic education that must begin in the pre-school age.

    Neste ensaio, propõe-se uma reflexão sobre a dimensão poética da canção de embalar e a sua importância em contexto educativo. Sendo a canção de embalar um particular texto do património literário oral, são apontados os elementos semânticos, métricos e fónico-rítmicos, estilísticos, entre outros, que contribuem para a complexidade estética destas "rimas" e que impulsionam a sua reescrita ou a apropriação do género quer por compositores quer por poetas de vários quadrantes do mundo, com destaque para alguns portugueses. O contacto com estas "rimas" para a infância é essencial numa educação estética que deve iniciar-se desde a idade pré-escolar.
