    En el artículo se analizan, por una parte, los antecedentes del Decenio Internacional para los Afrodescendientes (2015-2024) de Naciones Unidas y su estrategia para la implementación de políticas y programas para el reconocimiento y la promoción de los derechos de las personas de ascendencia africana. Por otra parte, se expone cómo y hacia dónde se puede avanzar para promover su significativa contribución a nuestras sociedades. Aquí cobran importancia las medidas para la visibilización estadística de la población afrodescendiente y otras acciones de recogida de información que tengan como objetivo estudiar y difundir el legado histórico y cultural de las personas de origen africano. Por último, se presentan algunas conclusiones y recomendaciones que pudieran ser consideradas por las instituciones públicas y las organizaciones de la sociedad civil, para abordar las formas de discriminación específicas que afectan a laspersonas africanas y afrodescendientes.

    The article examines, on one hand, the background of the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024) and its strategy for the implementation of policies and programs for the recognition and promotion of the rights of people of African descent. On the other hand, it describes how and where we can move forward to promote their significant contribution to our societies. Measures to statistically improve the visibility of the Afro-descendant population and other information gathering information on actions that aim to study and disseminate the historical and cultural legacy of people of African origin. Finally, some conclusions and recommendations are offered to be considered by public institutions and civil society organizations when addressing the specific forms of discrimination that affect African and Afro-descendant people.
