    La trata con fines de explotación sexual es una forma de esclavitud moderna, un tipo de violencia contra las mujeres, un negocio ilícito que traspasa fronteras y una violación directa de los derechos humanos. Además, emplea la migración como una vía de tránsito para captar, transportar y explotar a mujeres y niñas en países como España. Por su parte, el tercer sector, representado principalmente por las ONG, es quien se ocupa de la asistencia integral de las mujeres prostituidas, incluida la intervención interlingüística con aquellas que son migrantes. La interpretación humanitaria es, pues, una respuesta profesional ante esta necesidad y una figura activista que garantiza el derecho a una comunicación digna, eficaz y profesional. No obstante, como reflejan los resultados obtenidos en esta investigación, la situación de la interpretación dista sobremanera de aquella ejercida en otros ámbitos más profesionalizados.

    Trafficking for sexual exploitation is a form of modern slavery, a type of gender-based violence, a cross-border crime, and a direct human rights violation. It also uses migration as a transit route to recruit, transport and exploit women and girls in countries such as Spain. The third sector, mostly represented by NGOs, is the one that deals with the comprehensive assistance of prostituted women, including interlinguistic intervention with migrant women. Humanitarian interpreting is therefore a professional response to this need and an activist figure that guarantees the right to receive dignified, effective, and professional communication. However, as the results of this field study show, the situation of interpreting is far from that exercised in other more professionalised spheres.
