Teatre Lliure prepared for the premiere of a Catalan production of Angels in America (1991–1993), Tony Kushner’s epic “gay fantasia on national themes.” Being the first time the diptych was to be performed in its entirety in Barcelona, the premiere was considered one of the events of the season.¹ The show, however, had a controversial reception after David Selvas, the stage director, made some questionable decisions.
