Background: Heutagogy is a student-centered learning approach that emphasizes the autonomy and self-direction of the learner. The use of technology in higher education in health can support the heutagogy approach by providing students with access to a wide range of educational resources, allowing them to personalize their own learning. Objective: Know experiences and practical recommendations for successful approaches to heutagogy in clinical education in the university context of the health area with possible results that can be applied in higher education in physiotherapy. Methods: This study includes a scope review of randomized and observational studies in the databases Embase, PubMed, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), and SciELO. They were considered studies written in English or Portuguese, published between the years 2000 and 2022, and where it was clear that a teaching-learning approach that incorporated heutagogy in higher education training in the area of healthcare had a direct connection or had the potential to be implemented in the curriculum of a degree in physiotherapy. Results: The recovered studies were subjected to screening, and after 537 exclusions, 7 studies presented features relevant to the study proposal. Conclusion: The affinity between health courses favors the interdisciplinarity between the heutagogical approaches found and may benefit the teaching of physiotherapy with experiences of approaches carried out in other courses. Few studies have been found, indicating the need for further research that can guide teachers and students in building critical, effective, and autonomous clinical thinking by incorporating heutagogy into their training.
