    Considering the importance of the material destined for students in Portuguese textbooks (PT) and what reaches the hands of the teacher in the Teacher's Manual (TM), our objective is to investigate the theoretical-methodological assumptions related to lexicon and vocabulary selection in the TM of a PT. Our theoretical framework is based on authors dealing with Lexicology, the concept of lexicon, and its teaching (Neves, 2020; Castilho, 2020; Antunes, 2012), as well as studies related to lexical selection (Cardoso, 2015). The methodology of this work is based on documentary, descriptive, and explanatory research, with a qualitative approach to data obtained from a PT selected by the National Program of Textbook and Educational Material (NPTEM) of 2021, aimed at High School. Our analyses point to a productive theoretical orientation regarding concepts such as language, which support activities that consider lexicon and lexical selection within texts, but there are still considerable gaps that need to be overcome, on the one hand, by the proponents of PT, and on the other hand, by the teacher in the classroom.

    Considerando a importância do material destinado ao aluno, os livros didáticos de português (LDP), e do que chega às mãos do docente no Manual do Professor (MP), objetivamos investigar os pressupostos teórico-metodológicos relacionados ao ensino do léxico e da seleção vocabular no MP de um LDP. Nossa base teórica se assenta em autores que tratam da Lexicologia, do conceito de léxico e do seu ensino (Neves, 2020; Castilho, 2020; Antunes, 2012), bem como em estudos relacionados à seleção lexical (Cardoso, 2015). A metodologia deste trabalho parte de uma pesquisa documental, descritiva e explicativa, com abordagem qualitativa dos dados obtidos a partir de um LDP selecionado pelo Programa Nacional do Livro e do Material Didático (PNLD) de 2021, destinado ao Ensino Médio. Nossas análises apontam para uma orientação teórica produtiva em relação a conceitos como o de língua, que dão sustentação a atividades que considerem o léxico e a seleção lexical no interior dos textos, mas ainda há lacunas consideráveis que devem ser superadas, por um lado, pelos proponentes dos LDP e, por outro, pelo professor em sala.
