    Este artigo tem como objetivo investigar a presença do fantástico no conto “Embargo”, de José Saramago, originalmente publicado em 1978, no livro Objecto Quase, em uma proposta comparativa com o conto “Caminhões”, de Stephen King, presente na obra Sombras da noite, do mesmo ano. Para tanto, em um primeiro momento, caracterizam-se os aspectos que fundamentam o gênero fantástico na literatura. Em seguida, identificam-se as características da literatura fantástica nos contos que compõem o corpus de análise do presente estudo para, por fim, estabelecer possíveis interlocuções entre ambas as narrativas.

    This article aims to investigate the presence of the fantastic in the short story “Embargo”, by José Saramago, originally published in 1978, in the book Objecto nearly, in a comparative proposal with the short story “Caminhões”, by Stephen King, present in the work Night Shadows, same year. To do so, at first, the aspects that underlie the fantastic genre in literature are characterized. Then, the characteristics of fantastic literature are identified in the short stories that make up the corpus of analysis of the present study to, finally, establish possible interlocutions between both narratives.
