    El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar los avances y desafíos de la historiografía de la educación técnica desde el Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN). La metodología de análisis es cualitativa, comparativa y crítica, por lo que se presenta al inicio un segmento de la historiografía institucional promotora de identidad realizada desde la Presidencia del Decanato, instancia que por normatividad es la responsable de generarla. Frente a esta historiografía han crecido dentro del IPN otras líneas de investigación y abordajes históricos de gran riqueza elaborados por egresados e historiadores ubicados en diferentes escuelas y/o dependencias politécnicas. Debido a la importancia de estos últimos trabajos, se muestran algunos de ellos cuyas líneas de investigación son, por ejemplo, el desarrollo de la investigación científica y tecnológica institucional, movimientos estudiantiles y la historia de las mujeres, temas que permiten abordar desafíos y dilemas institucionales de manera crítica. La apertura historiográfica a dichos temas y abordajes, fuera de la historia oficial, ha permitido que el conocimiento histórico coadyuve en la evaluación crítica institucional, con miras a mejorar la equidad y la actividad educativa, científica y cultural del IPN.

    The objective of this article is to show the advances and challenges of the historiography of technical education from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN, National Polytechnic Institute). The analysis methodology is qualitative, comparative and critical, thus at the beginning a segment of the institutional historiography promoting identity is presented from the Presidency of the Dean’s Office, the body that by regulation is responsible for generating it. Alongside this historiography, other lines of research and historical approaches of great richness have grown within the IPN, developed by graduates and historians located in different schools and/or polytechnic departments. Due to the importance of these latest works, some of them are shown, whose lines of research are, for example, the development of institutional scientific and technological research, student movements and the history of women, topics that allow to address institutional challenges and dilemmas in a critical manner. The historiographical openness to these topics and approaches, outside of official history, has allowed historical knowledge to contribute to the critical institutional evaluation, with a view to improving equity and the educational, scientific and cultural activity of the IPN.
