    Según la Organización Internacional para la Migración, 175 millones de personas (2,9% de la población mundial) viven fuera de sus países de origen. En el caso de España, en menos de diez años, la proporción de inmigrantes ha crecido más de un 300%. Si este fenómeno resulta un hecho tan relevante en la sociedad española de la última década, es lógico pensar que el teatro ha debido reaccionar a este tema generando propuestas dramatúrgicas basadas en la inmigración. Este trabajo analiza la respuesta del arte escénico a este hecho histórico y estudia el motivo de la inmigración en el teatro español contemporáneo durante el periodo de 1996 a 2006, momento en el que el fenómeno social adquiere una gran relevancia en el país. Para ello, partiremos del análisis de tres apartados principales: el estudio histórico de este periodo, el estudio psicosocial del fenómeno de la inmigración y el análisis de ocho obras significativas en el teatro español de los últimos años, que tienen la inmigración como contenido central. Este trabajo, además, tendrá como foco la sociedad española como sociedad de acogida. Todo este análisis confirmará que existe una respuesta del actual teatro español al fenómeno de la inmigración, y permitirá observar como los autores españoles dirigen su crítica más dura precisamente hacía la sociedad de la que forman parte.

    According to the International Organization of Migration, 175 million people (2,9% of the world population) live abroad of their own country. In Spain´s case, in less than ten years, the proportion of immigrants has grown more than 300%. If the immigration phenomenon is so relevant in Spanish society in the last decade, it is logical to think that theater had reacted to this fact, generating dramaturgical proposals in which the mean theme is immigration. This investigation analyses the art scenic’s response to this historical fact, studying the theme of immigration in the contemporary Spanish theater among the years of 1996 to 2006, where the social phenomenon acquires a big relevance in the country. To reach that purpose, we are going to divide this paper in three main parts: a historical study of this period, a psychosocial study of the phenomenon of immigration and the analyses of eight significant plays of the Spanish theater in the last years, in which the main content is immigration. The main goal of this thesis is the Spanish society as a shelter for immigrants. All this analysis will confirm that nowadays the Spanish theater is responding to the phenomenon of immigration and it will aloud us to observe how the Spanish authors focus their criticism on their own society.
