La etiología de la enfermedad aparece en el Timeo como complementaria y perfectamente compatible con los principios físicos y fisiológicos establecidos al comienzo del relato cosmológico del diálogo. Lo cual pone de relieve que la preocupación de Platón reside en esclarecer los principios físicos que constituyen la causa última de la enfermedad. En este contexto, el deseo aparece como el agente responsable de la falta de proporción entre el cuerpo y el alma, e incluso entre las diferentes partes que componen el alma. La indagación pormenorizada de los textos que hacen referencia al sperma permite explicar cómo la concepción de enfermedad sostenida por Platón puede ser entendida desde el mito, la cosmología y la fisiología.

The aetiology of the disease appears in the Timaeus as complementary and perfectly compatible with the physic and physiologic principles established at the beginning of the cosmologic part of the dialogue. This highlights that Plato’s concern resides in clarifying the physical principles that constitute the end cause to disease. Within this context, desire appears as the agent responsible for the lack of proportion between body and soul, and even within the different parts that integrate the soul. In-depth research of the texts that refer to sperm allow the explanation of how the conception of disease held by Plato may be understood from myth, cosmology and physiology.
