Resumen de Contribución a la regulación de la tecnología UWB en Europa: = Contribution to UWB technology regulation in Europe

La tecnología de banda ultra ancha (UWB), de grandes potenciales ventajas, ha generado gran interés en la comunidad científica e industrial, a la vez que ha suscitado preocupación por los posibles efectos sobre otros sistemas de radio por la necesidad de compartición del espectro.
En esta tesis se recopilan parte de los estudios de coexistencia realizados entre los sistemas IR-UWB y otros sistemas que utilizan bandas susceptibles de ser ocupadas por sus emisiones, en concreto GSM y UMTS, cuantificando la degradación en el funcionamiento de estos sistemas denominados víctima cuando son objetos de interferencias provenientes de fuentes IR-UWB, tanto individuales como agregadas. Esto se realiza mediante estudios teóricos y campañas de medidas.
Los resultados han permitido definir varias propuestas de límites máximos aceptables de densidad espectral de potencia para UWB, y presentarlos en los foros adecuados encargados del desarrollo de su regulación en Europa.

Ultra wideband technology (UWB) has gained great interest in the scientific and industrial communities due to its high potential advantages. However, the need for the spectrum to be shared between UWB and the other services it overlaps with, has been a source of controversy during the last years.
This work collects part of the research activity developed so far in the field of compatibility studies between IR-UWB and other radio services operating in bands potentially affected by UWB, in this case GSM and UMTS.
The objective of this research has been the quantification of the performance degradation on the GSM and UMTS when they suffer from IR-UWB single and/or aggregate interference.
As a result of that, proposals on maximum mean UWB power spectral density have been defined and presented at the regulatory bodies in charge of the UWB regulation process in Europe.
