Resumen de Protocolo de intervención para la mejora del estado de salud oral del paciente con carcinoma oro-faríngeo antes, durante y tras el tratamiento radio-quimioterápico

Los odontólogos deben tener un papel preponderante en la prevención, control y tratamiento de las alteraciones buco-dentales en el paciente con cáncer oro-faríngeo que va a ser sometido a tratamiento de radio-quimioterapia. Creemos que la extracción dental no debe ser el único principio terapéutico en estos enfermos y que el odontólogo debe asumir el tratamiento antes, durante y tras la radio-quimioterapia. En este sentido, presentamos un estudio cuasi-experimental de dos grupos de 41 enfermos afectos de cáncer oro-faríngeo que van a ser tratados con tratamiento combinado de radio-quimioterapia (sin cirugía). Comparamos los resultados obtenidos y la repercusión en la calidad de vida de estos pacientes, cuando a un grupo sólo se le realizan extracciones dentales y asesoramiento en materia de higiene y al otro se le tratan todos los problemas buco-dentales

Dentists must take a leading role in the prevention, control and treatment of oro-dental disorders in patients with oro-pharyngeal cancer to be subjected to radio-chemotherapy treatment. We believe that the tooth extraction should not be the only therapeutic principle in these patients and the dentists should take the treatment before, during and after chemoradiotherapy. In this sense, we present a quasi-experimental study of 41 patients groups each, suffering oro-pharyngeal cancer who will be treated with combined radio-chemoterapy treatment (no surgery). We compare the results obtained and the impacted on quality of life of these patients, when a group is only performed tooth extractions and advice on hygiene and the other will address all oral-dental problems.
