This doctoral thesis investigates the evolution of female subjectivity in contemporary Spanish cinema (2000-2025), analyzing how new narratives have reconfigured the re-presentation of women. Through a qualitative study of 25 films and interviews with their directors, we have examined the shift from traditional stereotypes to complex characters that place the ethics of care, mental burden, and emotional management at the heart of the cinematic narrative. The research is not limited to film and authorship analysis but also incorporates the perspective of reception and identification through film forums with female viewers. The results support the idea that Spanish cinema of the last two decades has generated a space of mutual recognition, allowing female viewers to identify with and reflect on themselves in a more authentic and realistic way. This is particularly true of films directed by women. The thesis concludes that these films act as tools for legitimizing everyday female experience, breaking with the histori-cal invisibility of emotions and reproductive labor. This thesis demonstrates that cu-rrent cinema not only represents reality, but also offers new frames of reference for the construction of female identity in contemporary society.
