Pharmacometrics is a quantitative discipline with broad applications in drug development and precision dosing. This thesis explores the use of pharmacometric approaches to better understand and improve anesthesia management within the context of perioperative medicine. Specifically, it focuses on leveraging population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic strategies to characterize physiological responses to anesthesia and related events, and inform clinical decision-making. The overarching goal has been to enhance the clinical use of anesthetic agents through model-informed strategies, ultimately contributing to more precise, safe, and effective perioperative care. Throughout the different sections, several examples are presented to illustrate how pharmacometric techniques can support clinical optimization and decision-making in this specific clinical setting.
