  • Resumen
    • The advent of sustainable energy generation has resulted in energy storage systems garnering significant attention. Within the scope of all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs), solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) have amassed extensive research due to their high safety, mechanical stability and thermal stability. SPEs are facilely prepared, sustainable and abundant, provide good interfacial compatibility with the electrodes, and allow for thinner battery packs, as SPEs act as both an electrolyte and a separator, enabling higher volumetric energy density. The compatibility of SPEs with Li metal anodes is a particular advantage, serving as a drop-in technology for current state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries.

Despite the promise of SPEs, its high crystallinity limits the ionic conductivity, such that required operation temperatures are quite high, approximately 60 ⁰C and above, which is the melting temperature of the polymer matrix. With the aim of understanding how SPE properties, such as ion transport, dynamics and ion coordination, are influenced by polymer and Li salt chemistries, a fundamental study employing a range of experimental and computational techniques are performed.

By unearthing the governing phenomena which impacts these properties, further understanding in SPE design may be attained, a crucial endeavor towards the commercialization of SPEs in ASSBs.
