This research develops a proposal aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Colombia’s Hass avocado sector through the design and validation of a Technological Management System (TMS) that modernizes and makes the production processes of smallholder farmers more sustainable. The proposed system enables producers not only to comply with international phytosanitary and environmental regulations but also to integrate efficiently into export markets, particularly the European Union, where frameworks such as the European Green Deal and the Farm-to-Fork Strategy impose additional sustainability challenges.
The study begins with an exhaustive review of the literature on technological adoption in small-scale agriculture, complemented by a quantitative analysis of the main characteristics of Colombian Hass-avocado producers, with a focus on how their current practices influence productivity and access to international markets. Preliminary experiments demonstrate the potential of integrating sustainable technologies and agronomic practices to improve both productivity and fruit quality, confirming the feasibility of the proposed approach. These pilot initiatives include the implementation of digital platforms and the evaluation of enhanced agronomic practices on selected farms, whose initial results indicate significant improvements in efficiency and sustainability.
The proposed Technological Management System is not only designed to increase the productivity and quality of Hass avocado but also to facilitate an integrated logistical response that meets the demands of international markets. Ultimately, this framework aims to strengthen the global competitiveness and innovation capacity of the Colombian agricultural sector. The expected outcomes include the establishment of a replicable management model that enables the effective integration of smallholder producers into export circuits, thereby improving both their economic viability and environmental sustainability.
