Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers worldwide and the most frequent neoplasm in women. Despite advances in available therapies, breast cancer treatment still faces critical challenges. Current research focuses on identifying novel therapeutic targets and investigating natural products with potential anticancer properties. Stilbenes have been widely documented for their diverse biological activities, including antifungal, anti-inflammatory and anticancer effects. Therefore, a 3D model was developed to better screen the biological activities of stilbenes. Stilbenes can undergo various chemical transformations. In this thesis, we studied the oligomerization of trans-resveratrol and trans-piceid and their isomerization under UV irradiation. Both chemical transformations led to new derived stilbenes. The biological properties of these compounds were investigated in breast cancer. The biological properties were first tested in cell culture in monolayers and the results were compared with those obtained in 3D models. Among the nine stilbenes tested, r2-viniferin was the most cytotoxic showing a strong anti-cancer activity in monolayers and 3D model. In contrast, the cytotoxic effect of r2-viniferin was not reported on the non-tumorigenic mammary epithelial cells. The results reported in this study, confirm the anticancer effect of r2-viniferin and its promising therapeutic potential against breast cancer.
