  • Resumen
    • One characteristic far ali polymerization processes is that conversion of monomers rarely proceeds to completion, leaving an unreacted amount of monomer in the final product. This residual monomer is undesirable, mainly because of toxicity (vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile) and strong odor (acrylates and methacrylates). Additionally, due to sorne side reactions during the polymerization process, nonpolymerizable compounds could be farmed, which will contribute to the final concentration of residual volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

In the last two decades, the environmental regulation regarding the concentration of VOCs in aqueous polymer dispersion became progressively restricted. Post-polymerization fallowed by devolatilization are quite efficient techniques in order to remove the residual monomer and the nonpolymerizable VOCs. However, the need of additional equipment increases the costs, which is not in favor far the industry. Consequently, the aim of this project is to find new, efficient and economically acceptable strategies far the removal of residual monomer and the nonpolymerizable VOCs.
