  • Resumen
    • This doctoral thesis investigates the influence of internal organizational factors on the adoption and implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability initiatives in both private enterprises and public institutions. Grounded in robust theoretical frameworks such as the Resource-Based View (RBV), Signaling Theory, and Neo-Institutional Theory the thesis examines how variables like corporate culture, leadership vision, training programs, and organizational structure shape environmental and social outcomes. It provides a multidimensional and comparative perspective through three peer-reviewed empirical studies. The first article explores which organizational characteristics motivate firms to send CSR signals through sustainability reporting aligned with GRI standards. The second article offers a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis of Green Public Procurement (GPP), identifying global research trends, barriers, and enablers in the transition toward sustainable public sector purchasing. The third study applies a moderated mediation model to analyze the drivers of GPP adoption in 206 Andalusian SMEs, emphasizing the roles of environmental culture, green training, and top management s vision for sustainability. Collectively, the thesis provides new insights into how internal resources and institutional pressures interact to drive responsible business behavior. It highlights that beyond external regulation, the development of environmental capabilities and leadership commitment within organizations is critical for fostering sustainability. The results offer strategic guidance for both policymakers and practitioners, particularly in the effective design of public procurement policies and in strengthening sustainability practices in SMEs. Ultimately, this research contributes to the academic discourse by bridging organizational theory and sustainable development practice, proposing an integrated framework for understanding and promoting CSR and sustainability from within organizations.
