In this research a model of mobile learning focused on higher education is proposed. A diagnosis respect to status of the access and use of information technology and mobile communications within a representative institution of higher education in Mexico with the purpose of analyze the feasibility of the proposal is made. Learning theories that consider both current pedagogical and technological challenges also are studied, based on this, a mobile learning model with a layered architecture that integrates collaborative, open and distributed elements constructed from objects of learning aims mobile called OpenEducaML.
The main objective for both the thesis is the development, implementation and validation of the model, with the purpose of improve the coverage, relevance and equity of higher education. Therefore, in addition, the model makes use of a flexible curriculum, as well as educational and communication strategies that use Information and Communication Technologies.
The model proposed in this thesis is based on the theory of social constructivism, collaborative learning, connectionist, open and distributed, as well, an instructional design and development methodology for mobile learning objects are proposed. As a result of the application of the proposed model implementation is presented through a mobile platform that uses mobile moodle and web 3.0 tools. The research uses a quantitative strategy, also use the descriptive method, exploratory, correlational and quasi-experimental was made. OpenEducaML was implemented and valid in the context of an educational experience at the Universidad Veracruzana. The results demonstrate the potential of mobile learning as an effective way of learning also show a positive perception of students toward the proposed model. Evidence significant differences were found in the level of individual and group learning, in terms of the achievements under the powers set out in the curriculum, web 3.0 tools and resources used compared with those obtained in the traditional model of teaching and learning at the institution of higher education.
Therefore OpenEducaML be considered as a viable and relevant to facilitate learning in the current conditions imposed by the knowledge society pedagogical tool.
