  • Resumen
    • Productive cross-border investments have been falling worldwide in recent years, proof of this is that some multinationals have been leaving Colombia recently. Having information that avoids the total or partial failure of the productive implementations carried out by multinationals is necessary. Therefore, in this doctoral dissertation, a conceptual model of factors affecting the failure of productive implantation abroad (MOCFIFIPE) was designed. To achieve this objective, a methodological design consisting of four sequential stages was developed. In the first stage, an integration of concepts on internationalization processes was carried out, obtaining a writing describing the four theoretical perspectives of internationalization. In the second stage, a deconstruction of business failure models was performed, achieving a comparison between identified models showing the factors, their relationships, advantages or limitations. In the third stage, the links between internationalization processes and business failure models were determined, getting the basic components of the conceptual model to be proposed. In the fourth and final stage, the model proposal was designed. The main result of this research is the MOCFIFIPE, which contains three general categories (macroenvironment, microenvironment and internal), each consisting of 6 factors, and these factors are composed entirely of 125 items. With the results of this research, companies that plan to establish themselves productively in Colombia, or in any other country, or that are already carrying out this process, have at their disposal a model with which to reflect if the process is prone to reach a failure or de-internationalization, they even have a scale made from the model to perform this analysis. For their part, the community of researchers, have a reference in the MOCFIFIPE that can be the starting point for developing different research initiatives. Finally, it is necessary that the methodological design used in this investigation can be useful as a guide for the development of similar studies in the area.
