  • Resumen
    • Summary This research is dedicated to exploring the syntactic-stylistic devices used in English, French, and Armenian-speaking political discourse to express tolerance. The rapid social changes of recent decades, driven by globalization and cultural interactions, and the democratization of societies have made research on tolerance an essential component of public communication. Additionally, the political factor holds a dominant role in relationships from the local to the global level in contemporary globalization conditions, emphasizing the importance of studying linguistic devices that express tolerance in modern political discourse, both theoretically and practically. The theoretical significance of this dissertation lies in its analysis of discourse not only as a political science concept but also as an object of linguistics and oratory. Tolerance is considered as a linguistic phenomenon, which emerges in linguistics, oratory, and other fields of interest, where the distinctions between phenomena such as tolerance, respect, and correctness expressed in speech are separated. Additionally, the concepts of political, linguistic communication, political debate, political discourse, and political agenda are clarified. The practical significance of this dissertation lies in the usage of the outcomes of studying political officials' and country governors' texts and speeches, as well as the possibility of enriching the curriculum with this and similar topics. The object of research conducted in this dissertation is English-speaking political discourse. The objects of research are linguistic-syntax-stylistic devices that express tolerance in political discourse. The aim of this dissertation is to study the peculiarities and patterns of syntacticstylistic devices in English, French, and Armenian-speaking political discourse.

The dissertation consists of an introduction, five chapters, a conclusion, and references. The study was conducted using linguistic analysis, as well as comparison, juxtaposition, and interpretation methods. For separate issues, methods such as contradiction, component analysis, modeling, hypotonic-deductive, and psycho-linguistic analysis were utilized.

As analytical material, we took interviews and stenographers of debates from political leaders in various countries.

The dissertation examines the manifestations of gender tolerance, which play an important role in the life of modern civilized societies and political discourse. In several examples, the forms of expression of sexual tolerance and the peculiarities of their expression in political discourse are analyzed.

Special attention is given to the modern manifestations of hate speech in political discourse, which is of great professional interest as it reflects the linguistic thinking and linguistic image of a political subject. The research identified the predominant syntactic and stylistic devices used to express tolerance in English, French, and Armenian political speeches: epithet, metaphor, anaphora, epiphora, repetition, rhetorical question, litotes, hyperbole, comparison, contrast, inversion, and syntactic parallelism. These devices were found to align with the three principles of expressing tolerance: equality, cooperation, and moral standards. One of the significant conclusions of the dissertation is that the mere use of these devices in political speech does not necessarily denote tolerance. Rather, it is their deployment with the intent of conveying the principles of equality, cooperation, and moral norms that signifies a tolerant stance.
