Objectives: Around the Falkland Island the squid Doryteuthis gahi and related species will be sampled. Trophic interactions will be investigated. Spatial, seasonal and cohort differences will be revealed. Methodology: Anatomical features will be measured, such as length, weight, maturity, sex and age. Age will be determined by measuring statoliths. Furthermore, stomachs will be analysed. A visual stomach fullness index will be applied (0-4). The weight and the volume of the stomach will be measured, prey items will be identified. Frequency of occurrence and indices of relative importance will be calculated. Stable Isotopes, carbon and nitrogen) will be measured in mantle tissue and gladii of the squid. Related species to D. gahi such as predators and prey will be collected, and muscle tissue will be measured for Stable Isotopes (carbon and nitrogen). Stomach contents will be identified. All gained data will be used to create an ecosystem model of the Falkland Islands with the software Ecopath with Ecosim. Media: Data analysis will be done with R. The ecosystem model will use Ecopath with Ecosim. Presentation and text editing will use Microsoft software such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Time planning: 1st year will be used to do sample collection and processing. 2nd year will be used to analyse data, write 1st paper and 1st chapter of thesis. 3rd year will be used to present conclusions and write rest of the thesis. A document will all details is provided to the members of the follow up committee.
