    “La encrucijada de Europa es esta: o unión e integración, o desunión y desintegración” (Nouriel Roubini). Entender los momentos clave de la integración europea será necesario para introducir la crisis del proyecto europeo, que se materializó con la retirada británica de la Unión. Un estudio detallado del llamado ‘Brexit’ es por tanto fundamental para analizar las causas del fracaso de aquel proceso y las consecuencias más importantes de ese histórico acontecimiento tanto para la (des-)integración europea como para el país de retirada. Los resultados de la investigación evidenciarán los efectos impactantes de la desintegración en la sociedad y la economía del Reino Unido y en las políticas de la Unión Europea, efecto del ‘hard Brexit’ finalmente logrado con el Acuerdo de Comercio y Cooperación de 2021. En virtud de los resultados alcanzados, se discutirán unas posibles perspectivas futuras de cara a los límites de las relaciones entre Unión Europea y Reino Unido: ¿El Brexit podría ser el primer ejemplo de una serie de retiradas que conduzcan a la desintegración definitiva del proyecto europeo? ¿Supondrá un refuerzo de la integración? ¿Será la base para un replanteamiento de las relaciones entre la Unión Europea y el Reino Unido?

    “The crossroads of Europe is this: either union and integration, or disunity and disintegration” (Nouriel Roubini). Understanding the key moments of European integration will be necessary to introduce the crisis of the European project, which materialized with the British withdrawal from the Union. A detailed study of the so-called 'Brexit' is therefore essential to analyze the origins of the failure of that process and the most important consequences of that historic event both for European (dis-)integration and the country of withdrawal. The results of the research will show the shocking effects of the disintegration on the society and the economy of the United Kingdom and on the policies of the European Union, as an effect of the 'hard Brexit' finally achieved with the Trade and Cooperation Agreement of 2021. Based on the results of this research, possible future perspectives will be discussed taking into consideration the limits of relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom: Could Brexit be the first example of a series of withdrawals that will lead to the definitive disintegration of the European project? Will it mean a reinforcement of integration? Will it be the basis for a rethinking of relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom?
