La investigación trata sobre las teorías lingüísticas del siglo XVII en Europa Occidental, que se basan tanto en las contribuciones empiristas hechas por la obra de John Wilkins, "An Essay towards a Real Character and a Philosophical Language" (1668) como en las contribuciones racionalistas de la "Gramática de Port-Royal" (1660). El estudio expone el contenido de dichas obras y su relación con las tendencias de la Lingüística actual.

The research deals with Linguistic theories in the 17th Western Europe, which are based up either on the empirical contributions to Linguistics by John Wilkins ("An Essay towards a Real Character and a Philosophical Language, 1668") or on the rationalist contributions to Linguistics by the "Port-Royal Grammar " (1660). The study sets their contents and their relation with some trend in the present Linguistics.
