Noelia Bouzas Cruz

  • Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) have emerged as a new treatment for advanced heart failure, as a bridge to heart transplant and destination therapy, improving advanced heart failure patient´s survival and quality of life. However, there are several complications and risks associated with these devices: pump thrombosis, infection, bleeding, neurologic events, right heart failure, arrhythmias and valve disorders. These complications increase the morbidity and mortality of these patients. In addition, one of the main limitations after LVAD implantation is exercise intolerance. The aim of this Doctoral Thesis was to study the main complications and limitations associated with LVADs.
