Tiene como objetivo determinar los factores que fueron condicionando la fortaleza de cada bando a lo largo de la guerra, de modo que se pueda identificar el momento en que la guerra quedó esencialmente decidida, los factores que permiten afirmarlo, así como las causas que provocaron la derrota republicana. Por lo tanto, se tratará de identificar y evaluar los factores que decidieron, de forma irreversible, la victoria de los ejércitos de Franco. La tesis se apoya en dos dimensiones: la primera, la evolución temporal, nos permitirá conocer el desarrollo de las relaciones de poder entre los bandos, y la segunda dimensión es el conjunto de los factores de poder que van imprimiendo ventajas a cada bando. En los meses transcurridos entre diciembre de 1937 y mayo de 1938 hubo cambios drásticos en algunos factores consecuencia de las operaciones militares. En esencia, la configuración territorial republicana, con Cataluña aislada del resto del territorio gubernamental, ahorcaba a su ya debilitada economía y provocaba una posición militar extremadamente débil por la ruptura en dos partes de su ejército

The aim of this thesis is to determine the factors that influenced the position of power of each side throughout the war, in order to identify the moment at which the war was essentially decided, the factors that allowed this to be so, as well as the causes that led to the Republican defeat. Therefore, this thesis will endeavour to identify and evaluate the factors that irreversibly determined the victory of Franco's armies. This thesis will focus on two main aspects, the first being the chronological development of events which will allow us to understand the dynamics of the power struggle between the two sides. The second aspect to be examined will be the factors which determines the strength of each side at any given moment in the war. In the months that elapsed between December 1937 and May 1938, drastic shifts occurred that affected a number of factors, as a direct result of the military operations that took place. In essence, the reconfiguration of the Republican territory, namely with Catalonia isolated from the rest of the Government's territory, meant that its already weakened economy was strangled, in addition to creating a very weak military position due to the splitting of its army into two camps
