  • Resumen
    • The general objective of the present dissertation was to contribute to the employee well-being literature by examining the antecedents of two well-being indicators (i.e. job satisfaction and presenteeism) in the public and private sectors. The specific objective was to explore the relationship between job characteristics and institutional factors on job satisfaction and presenteeism in both sectors. To this end, we present a compendium of three studies that look at different types of job characteristics (e.g., demands, resources) and institutional context (e.g., formal, and informal) and their influence on job satisfaction and presenteeism. The specific objectives of this dissertation are outlined below, with each specific objective corresponding to a different research study: • The first study explores the mediating role of job demands and job resources in the relationship between the employment sector (i.e., public vs. private) and job satisfaction. • The second study analyses the interaction effect of formal (i.e., labour freedom) and informal institutions (i.e., national culture) on job satisfaction. • The third study identifies some job resources (extrinsic and intrinsic) as determinants of presenteeism at work.
