FORMACIÓN INTEGRAL EN LA EDUCACIÓN UNIVERSITARIA: LA PERSPECTIVA DE JOHN HENRY NEWMAN Newman confesó que la educación, en el sentido amplio de la palabra, fue objeto de su interés durante toda su vida. Estudiante de grado en Oxford, tutor en Oriel College, pastor en St. Clement's Parish, fundador y primer rector de la Universidad Católica de Irlanda, fundador del Oratory School, todos estos hechos prueban que Newman fue un educador experimentado.
En La idea de una universidad, el enfoque integral y personalista de Newman sobre la educación es explícito. Newman concibe educar a toda la persona. Su objetivo es la educación liberal, general, integral y sana. Los ingredientes pedagógicos que conforman esta educación integral según Newman es el objeto de nuestra investigación. En este trabajo, señalamos la base antropológica de esta educación integral. Esto contrasta con otras tendencias y modelos educativos que son deficientes al pasar por alto la constitución antropológica básica del hombre.
Un enfoque personalista de la educación prioriza la dimensión subjetiva sobre la meramente objetiva. Lo primero son las personas. A raíz del enfoque utilitario, materialista y pragmático de la educación, tanto en los tiempos de Newman y en los nuestros, es necesario subrayar el personalismo de Newman en asuntos educativos como un asunto de suma importancia.
El objetivo principal de la educación para una sociedad es hacer ciudadanos maduros y responsables. Estos, a su tiempo, serán capaces de mantenerse por sí mismos. También contribuirán al bien común de la sociedad. En muchos casos la rentabilidad de la inversión en educación es deficiente. Newman tiene algunas claves para remediar esta disparidad, las cuales se estudian en esta tesis.

INTEGRAL FORMATION IN THE UNIVERSITY EDUCATION: JOHN HENRY NEWMAN'S APPROACH Newman confessed that from the first to the last, education in the large sense of the word has been his line. As an undergraduate at Oxford, a tutor at Oriel College, a pastor at St. Clements Parish, the first and the founding rector of the Catholic University of Ireland, the founder and many years of work at Newmans Oratory School proves Newman to be a seasoned educator.
In The Idea of a University, Newmans integral and personalist approach to education is sculptured explicitly. Newman envisions educating the whole person. He aims at liberal, overall, integral, and wholesome education. The pedagogical ingredients that constitute to this integral education according to Newman is the object of our investigation. In this work, we point out the anthropological foundation of this integral education. This contrasts with other educational tendencies and models that are deficient for overlooking the basic anthropological constitution of man.
A personalist approach to education places the subjective use over and above the objective use of that education. The people count first. In the wake of utilitarian, materialistic, and pragmatic approach to education during Newmans times and in our own, highlighting personalism in Newman in matters education is of paramount importance. The aim of education for the society is to make mature responsible citizens. These will in turn be able to stand by themselves. They will also contribute to the common good of the society. Often, the return on investment on education is wanting. Newman has some keys that can resolve this disparity that are studied in this thesis.
