  • Resumen
    • Systemic immune-inflammatory response to cancer progression has long been related with adverse survival outcomes in patients with malignant tumors. This host-depending immune status is a plausible explanation for the heterogeneity of survival outcomes observed among patients stratified within the same relapse risk group. This scenario is of particular interest in tumors with scarce treatment options after recurrence, such as the endometrial (EC) and cervical cancers (CC). Moreover, both EC and CC present a high mutational burden, making them a preferred target for immunotherapy. For all these reasons, an understanding of the host immune response in these tumors is crucial for the development of new therapies.

Overall, immune prognostic and predictive biomarkers are still scant in cancer research, and inflammatory parameters measuring the immune host response at cancer diagnosis provide additional prognostic value beyond that offered by standard clinic-pathological features.

This doctoral thesis is based on the results of patients treated in two large European institutions, Hospital Clinic de Barcelona and Institut Gustave Roussy in Paris, and explores the role of immune-inflammatory biomarkers on the survival outcomes in EC and CC separately. All patient cohorts were categorized according to the optimal cut-off for each immune biomarker.
