  • Resumen
    • Several studies have been performed demonstrating the Ventilated Roof effectiveness (VR) in the reduction of heat transfer due to high solar radiation. The present study analyses and classifies the strategies used in this way against the phenomenon of energy transfer by conduction, convection and radiation, which allowed the identification of those strategies with the greatest impact on the operation of a VR. The study is focused on metal sheet ventilated roofs because of the frequent use of this material in the construction in Tabasco, México. Where this investigation takes place.

Configuration features considered in this study were: ventilated cavity ratio, roof tilt and surface reflectance of the extern foil. For the evaluation of the above mentioned variables, a series of VR building modules were designed and deployed at the study site in order to monitor their performance in reducing heat flow throw the roof as well as the effects that a suitable ventilation of the chamber has on this matter, allowing the identification of the efficient ranges of the VR system configuration variables for the warm humid tropic.

It is concluded that solar radiation is the most important environmental parameter in the overheating phenomenon of VR over the exterior air velocity, since the ventilation of the chamber does not present important correlation with its internal superficial temperature increment. Reflectance grade of the VR¿s external foil is the most important variable in the prevention of the excessive energy transfer throw the roof, being the cavity ratio and roof tilt the variables with less repercussion
