1- Relevant in vitro assays for MPER membrane activity should include:- MPER peptide redefined to bear the hydrophobic-at-interface region plus the Nterminalresidues of the TMD.- A lipid bilayer whose composition includes concentrations of cholesterol as highas those present in the viral envelope.2- Preliminary results support that in vitro assays for MPER activity, optimizedaccording to those parameters, are useful tools for new HIV-1 inhibitor and immunogendevelopment.
