  • Resumen
    • The term ¿interactivity¿ has been used with profusion in application to several situations. The lack of unanimity from a theoretical perspective makes the delimitation of the concept difficult. In this research, a definition it proposed that, based on ideas formulated in the cybernetics, recognizes the possibility of communication with persons and with the machine as well as the importance of the technology in the explanation of the term.

      The implications of interactivity on the control of communication and the possibilities associated with the use of the distribution platforms justify their interest as an object of study in their application to the journalistic field. For this reason, the supply of interactive resources and dissemination tools is analysed in Spanish online newspapers since they have proved to be at the forefront of using of digital applications. The study utilizes a multi-methodological design that combines quantitative and qualitative approaches and allows the creation of an overall interpretation that explains the behaviour of the Spanish online press.

      The research registers more openness in the newspapers and this is justified by the most widespread consideration that understands participation as an informative model of Web. The supply is determined by a lot of factors, including the media profile, the ownership and the position of the newspaper in the market. The resources that use ¿push¿ options and facilitate the personalization in the information diffusion dominate in the distribution platforms. The UGC tools and the interactivity in the contents still show low levels of implementation in spite of the progress of the ¿comment¿ option. There is an interest for the preferences of the users in the decisions on the selection and hierarchy of the contents. Nevertheless, it isn¿t possible to talk of incorporation of the user in the media on account of the lack of compensation for his contributions, the slim use of the reader created messages and the delimitation of this and participation areas The doctoral thesis has been developed with the support of Ministry of Education¿s pre-doctoral scholarship (BFPU AP2005-4591).
