Abstract An exhaustive and systematic survey was done on the musical sources from oral tradition in the Marvão, Nisa and Valência de Alcântara's border area, crucial for a better perception of the musical phenomenon. The study, from an ethnomusicological nature, covers different aspects on traditional oral music: the repertoires; life cycles; festivities, both agricultural and religious; the specificities of the musical repertoires, transcription and analysis of songs, among other. At last, a didactical approach is presented, based on collected songs, aiming to be applied on the syllabus for Musical Education in the Basic Education.
