Resumen de Del envejecimiento activo a la dependencia: factores que pudieran influir en la actitud de las personas para afrontar su propio envejecimiento

Las proyecciones demográficas a futuro nos plantean un panorama preocupante en todo lo relacionado con el mundo de las personas mayores. Disponemos de una ingente información sobre el tema del envejecimiento y sus consecuencias, tanto desde la óptica fisiológica como de las ciencias sociales, sin embargo, prevalecen en todas ellas, más tanto los aspectos geriátricos asociados a las patologías que combaten estas ciencias, como los lúdicos y culturales con los que se quiere retrasar y facilitar el tránsito al que todos estamos abocados.
Por otra parte, la incorporación al mundo del mayor de cohortes cada vez más saludables y mejor formadas culturalmente, fruto de nuestra Sociedad de Bienestar, es un hecho incuestionable y, sin embargo, el tránsito de la madurez a la vejez, cuando se ha estudiado, se ha pasado muy superficialmente sobre el hecho de que la participación y aportación que pueden hacer estos mayores aún activos en beneficio propio y de la sociedad, bien pudiera ser importante.
Para contribuir en lo posible a esclarecer este tema, después haber cotizado más de cuarenta años a la SS en mi calidad de ingeniero, decidí estudiar el tema en profundidad desde la óptica de la Antropología social y cultural y, el resultado, es en gran medida este trabajo, fruto de la investigación de una persona mayor, que ha intentado captar las experiencias transmitidas por otros mayores que han buscado alternativas a una forma de envejecer no impuesta sino libremente elegidas, aunque, en muchos casos, obligados por esos factores a los que hace referencia el título de la tesis.
Como objetivo fundamental y, por eso de que el movimiento se demuestra andando, las experiencias transmitidas se debían haber volcado en la creación de un Centro de Convivencia (viviendas colaborativas – senior cohousing) que se habría de enriquecer de ellas en la búsqueda de un modelo adaptativo a esa otra forma alternativa de envejecer, y en la que, como promotor y complemento de la investigación he estado trabajando estos pocos años. El resultado global está todavía por verse, porque parodiando a Unamuno, los partícipes y colaboradores del proyecto, estamos en condiciones de afirmar que: NI NOS HAN VENCIDO, NI NOS HAN CONVENCIDO, porque entre otras cosas, con solo el camino emprendido ya tenemos el triunfo garantizado.

The demographic projections for the future pose a worrying landscape in all matters related to the elderly world. There is a huge amount of information about aging and its consequences, both from the physiological and social sciences views, yet all of it is much more focused to the geriatric aspects related to the pathologies the aforementioned sciences fight as well as to the recreational and cultural activities intended to delay and facilitate the transit to which we are all doomed to.
On the other hand, the addition to the elderly world of increasingly healthier and culturally well-trained seniors, resulting from our Welfare Society, is an undeniable fact, and yet the studies on the transit from maturity to old age, when they exist, have hardly covered the fact that the participation and contribution of these still active seniors could well be significant to themselves and to the society.
To help to clarify this issue, after contributing over forty years to the Social Security as an engineer I decided to study the subject in depth from the perspective of social and cultural Anthropology. The result is, to a large extent, this work, product of the research of an elderly who has tried to capture the experiences transmitted by other elderlies who have found alternative non-imposed but freely chosen forms of ageing, though in many cases they were forced by the factors referred to in the title of this thesis.
As a main goal, and because the proof of the pudding is in the eating, the experiences transmitted should have resulted in the creation of a Senior Cohousing facility enriched by them throughout its quest for an adaptive model towards that alternative form of ageing in which I have been working these few years as research promoter and complement. The global outcome remains to be seen because, parodying Unamuno, we, the participants and partners of the project, can tell that NEITHER HAVE THEY BEATEN US, NOR HAVE THEY CONVINCED US, because, among other things, just setting off down the road is a guaranteed win.
