- Resumen
The general objective of this study is to put in value an inherent quality to the Periphery of a city, in this case, to the city port of Valparaiso. This quality refers to the capacity to be invented to itself like urban form starting from the seemingly simple process of auto-construction. The hypothesis points to affirm that the singular urban form of Valparaíso is contained from its same origin in the auto-constructed periphery and auto-induced by its inhabitants from the beginnings of this port. The methodology to understand this quality is sustained in the called architectural observation the one that intends more than as a method, as a language that allows a dialogue between the constructed environment and the origin of the idea of project. The Specific Objectives of this thesis are: 1. to present to the architectural observation as a language that contains itself the capacity to understand the world but also building it. 2. to present to the city port of Valparaíso from their origin like a layout in constant singularity caused by their social-physical space and their topographical location. 3. to demonstrate that in their current state their origin still stays not only in its historical center but in the adventure of being made a place on the part of who auto-construct its house, adventure that it is evidenced in the periphery of Valparaíso, ephemeral as soon as every time will be a little further on. 4. to present the study of the architect's profession proposed by the plan of studies of the Architecture School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, which originates and it is sustained from the architectural observation, a contemplative time in that melts drawing and annotation in the objective of apprehending the world. 5. from the study of 3 fundamental axes in the time and the space of Valparaíso the evidence of their constant periphery that configured the city. 6. to demonstrate from the research projects the perception about the space quality of the auto- construction that the inhabitants of the city perceive. The methodological frame to develop the objectives is sustained from the knowledge and the re-knowledge, as long as the first one is founded in the historical, geographical, social antecedents that build the city, and the second to remain in the face of these singularities and from the artistic and creative dimension of the observation to manifest this quality of space construction as the destination of the city. Both are developed by analysis that link these space formalities with the chore of the city together with other occupations that give answer to the "question" of the city: Their periphery. The construction of this speech, as long as observation and analysis are founded in the idea of the context: the time and space for which the city happens. The cronotopo (Bajtin) as the dimension of the city for which this exists. Existence caused by the three philosophical moments of Ricoeur: The Pre-figuration, the Con-figuration and the Re-figuration, as long as the city is from the idea that one has of it, the project that is recognized in the place, the construction of this and finally happening daily of its new inhabitants. The theoretical frame that structures this thesis is founded in: 1. the antecedents of the origin of Valparaíso and of the present idea that one has of it. 2. of the Projects and fundamental Studies of the Architecture and Design School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso that evidence the architectural dialogue between Observation and Project. 3. of the theory of the place idea developed by Josep Muntañola. 4. of the philosophical concepts that explain "happening human" as place construction. 5. of the idea of the "observation" like language associated to the architect's chore. This thesis proposes for it the construction of this language to understand and to apprehend the city port of Valparaíso putting in value its periphery like generator axis in its urban way, the one that contains itself its origin and for it its destination.
