Normas de Estilo de la Publicación

Editorial policy

The Journal of Caribbean Archaeology publishes original papers dealing with any aspect of archaeology in the Caribbean or surrounding areas. It is the author's responsibility to ensure that all referenced works are properly and accurately credited following the conventions described in "information for contributors" below. The editors reserve the right to reject or return for revision, with or without editorial board review, any manuscript submitted on the grounds of inappropriate subject matter, excessive length, or poor quality. Manuscripts may also be returned when they do not conform to the appropriate style provisions.

The editors request that all submissions be in English. We recognize that important contributions to archaeology in the Caribbean are also made in other languages, but we currently do not have the expertise to properly judge non-English submissions. We hope that as the journal matures this expertise will become available and allow multilingual publication in the future.

Information for contributors

Authors are solely responsible for the content of their submissions. They must insure the accuracy and correct attribution of quoted material, and must secure permission to use materials protected by U.S. or international copyright laws. Attribution for figures should be given within figure captions. Manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Caribbean Archaeology must not be under consideration by another journal or publication medium, and must not have been published elsewhere. Authors must sign a copyright release prior to publication of their manuscript.

Four hard copies and two electronic copies of each manuscript (including graphics in jpeg format where possible) should be submitted for consideration. Electronic copies of text should include one in a standard word processing format and one in a text only format. Three and a half inch floppy disks formatted for either Macintosh or IBM compatible computers are accepted.

Text should follow the detailed style guide published in American Antiquity 57(4):749- 770. The author's email address (where available) should be included immediately following the author's mailing address at the bottom of the title page.

Graphics, including text contained within graphics, should be of a suitable size to fit legibly on 8 1/2 x 11" paper with one inch margins while leaving room for the caption. Where graphics can not be submitted in electronic format, they will be scanned by the editors. In the event that scanning is required, authors should avoid tightly spaced stippling as it scans poorly. In select cases, text can also be scanned using optical character recognition.

Manuscripts should be submitted to:
Christopher Ohm Clement
South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology
1321 Pendleton St.
Columbia, SC 29208

Receipt of manuscripts will be confirmed by the editors and will be sent for review to the editorial board usually within one week. Each review will require approximately eight weeks to complete.
